Understanding Survey Editor Icons & Visual Cues

The survey editor includes visual cues and interface elements that help you quickly understand the structure, logic, and status of your survey. These cues make it easier to manage and edit your content with confidence.

Editor Icons: What They Mean

Icons and labels appear next to each question or service area in the questionnaire editor only. These provide quick context without needing to open individual settings.

Icon or Label

Meaning

✏️ Pencil

This is a question you can modify the text or options for. Your custom questions and service areas will always allow you to modify them.

Six dots

This is the drag handle used to reorder custom questions or service areas.

Custom

Identifies content you’ve created yourself (as opposed to predefined questions).

Condition

Indicates the question uses conditional logic and only appears under certain conditions.

IsRequired

Shows that the question is mandatory for respondents.

🔒 Lock

Marks a question that can not be moved or edited. These will only appear on some predefined questions that are locked due to benchmarking reasons.

Custom naming

This question has a custom naming option you can set. We will always provide a default value.

Used in filter

The response options for this question are available as filter options in your dashboard.

Preview & View Controls

The questionnaire editor also includes tools to help you manage and preview your survey layout:

  • Expand All / Collapse All
    Open or close all service areas to make navigating long surveys easier.

  • Preview View
    View how each question will appear to respondents directly within the editor.

  • Language Dropdown
    Use the language selector to view and manage translations for your survey content.
